Fox River Restoration Remonumentation

Location: Fox River Valley, Wisconsin

JSD provided survey control, aerial mapping, and bathymetric surveying and mapping for the Lower Fox River. The project area consisted of 3 reaches, Operational Unit 1 (OU1), Operational Unit 3 (OU3), and Operational Unit 4 (OU4). The limits of OU1 extend from the dam in Neenah, then downstream or North approximately to the Highway 96 bridge. The limits of OU3 start at the lock and dam at Little Kaukauna and extend to the DePere Lock and Dam. The limits of OU4 start at the De Pere Lock and Dam and extend to the mouth of Green Bay.

The survey control monumentation was constructed according to the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and industry guidelines and practices. JSD established and set permanent monuments that had both horizontal and vertical datum within the three project areas. Horizontal and vertical data conformed to Wisconsin Transverse Mercator of 1983 (WTM 83) and North American Vertical Datum 1988 (NAVD 88). Each monument was set in accordance with United States Coast Guard (USCG) type F or type C. JSD also published the monuments on the National Geodetic Survey (NGS).

JSD coordinated aerial photography and mapping of approximately 8,000 acres (3,000 acres in OU1; 1,600 acres in OU3 and 2,800 acres in OU4) of river and shoreline. Work was provided to Retec as part of a contract with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
