City of Madison Fire Station No. 12

JSD provided professional design and surveying services for construction of the City of Madison’s fire station No. 12. The fire station is approximately 12,430 square feet on a 2.4-acre site and design services included civil engineering, stormwater management and permitting.

JSD worked with the project architect and City of Madison staff throughout the design and approval process. The building and project site incorporated many sustainable design features, materials, and equipment, as well as many construction period practices. It was awarded the United States Green Building Council’s LEED Platinum Certification (the highest level of LEED certification), being only the second in the nation to achieve that certification at the time. This site was the highest rated Platinum fire station in America with 54 points.

The design vastly decreased the energy and other natural resources used in the construction and ongoing operation of the building.
