University of Wisconsin-Madison North Park Street Dormitory - Newell J. Smith Hall

Location: Madison, Wisconsin

JSD provided professional surveying services for the UW-Madison’s newest 163,000 square-foot dormitory. The new North Park Street Dormitory, Newell J. Smith Hall, is one of the new dorms being built to replace Ogg Hall on the UW Campus. Field work consisted of collecting electronic data of existing topography and utilities features. The data was used to develop AutoCAD base maps for architectural design of the proposed building expansions. JSD staff worked with the physical plant supervisors to obtain all utility information within project limits, and added private underground utilities to the survey map. Staff provided detailed drawings of steam tunnel vaults, water pits, communication vaults, and electrical vaults. JSD also provided a condominium plat and worked with the legal counsel for consistent language between the plat and condominium declarations.

North Park Street dormitory, located on Park Street between Dayton and Regent Streets, has an estimated occupancy of 425. The first floor will include academic and learning community support spaces including a technology center.
