University of Wisconsin-Madison Health Sciences Learning Center

Location: Madison, Wisconsin

JSD provided an existing conditions survey and mapping for the new Health Sciences Learning Center (HSLC) project. Field work consisted of collecting electronic data of existing topography and utilities features. The data was used to develop AutoCAD base maps for architectural design of the proposed building expansions. JSD staff worked with the physical plant supervisors to obtain all utility information within project limits, and added private underground utilities to the survey map. Staff provided detailed drawings of steam tunnel vaults, water pits, communication vaults, and electrical vaults.

The HSLC is the primary instructional space for the School of Medicine and Public Health's Medical Students, the Physician Assistant Program, and School of Nursing. In addition, select courses from the School of Pharmacy and other Health Sciences programs rely on the HSLC for instructional space. At the center of the HSLC will be the newly consolidated Health Sciences Library. Features of the new building include a climate-controlled vault for rare book and historical collections, a multi-media teaching lab, and distance education facilities. Work was performed for the State of Wisconsin, Department of Administration (DOA)
